From a Dork to all the Dork's in the world

I really don't believe I understand all of this. I AM an idiot. I screw up all the time. STOP thinking you have it all together! I am dying over here.

I am sick of people close to me pretending to have it all figured out. I am done to those people now. I want no conversation with them. Stop putting BIG words on things.

sim·plic·i·ty (sm-pls-t)
n. pl. sim·plic·i·ties
1. The property, condition, or quality of being simple or uncombined.
2. Absence of luxury or showiness; plainness.
3. Absence of affectation or pretense.
1. Lack of sophistication or subtlety; naiveté.
2. Lack of good sense or intelligence; foolishness.
3. Clarity of expression.
4. Austerity in embellishment.

That is all I want...to be simple. Why do we over think things? I don't want to think I know it all. I DO want to try but I understand my lack of good sense. Maybe I am foolish. maybe...

Simple. Dumbed down.

Real.

Help me along my messy journey...

Josh

After leaving a mid-week service of a church we have attended for five months, my husband said to me "I've had more real/authentic conversations with strangers in a bar than I have had in the past two years at the churches we've attended." How sad and how true.

Simple isn't saying you're simple. Truly simple people don't know they're simple. Most try to be otherwise. You aren't simple if you admit "I'm simple". You are obviously a complicated (and smart) person who is trying to act simple because it's what people do who try to act as if they are the 'little guy' in a big cruel world. It's safer that way to judge people because you can take the child's perspective, ala, 'The Emperor's New Clothes'. Wearing this 'Simple Badge' is a safe way to judge others as being 'pretentious' when they are really just being 'normal', but since you are 'simple' they will seem 'pretentious' because they aren't being 'simple' like you. In a nutshell: just be yourself, dude. It's simple.

Simplicity, or naiveté, as it were is most compulsory & indispensable for the exchange of inspiration, beliefs, and uncompromising principles.

You think yourself simple? I retort. "Thou art a zealot for veracity and integrity!"

No, this is no "messy journey". This is no acrimonious expedition. It is a crusade... an excursion of conviction.

Possess and preserve thy fealty, young ward. And thine stride shall be infallible.

See ya, highly offensive term for women that denotes a female carnivore from the canine species...

How could you possibly think that?!? I mean, c'mon! Get a freakin' clue!!

Who do you think you are, talking to me like that?!? If that's how you think Christians are supposed to act, then go and put your head in the sand so we can all kiss your butt!!!!

Granny Spinosi was part of my church until she died in her late nineties. She was shut-in for the last several years of her life. I visited her as often as my schedule would allow, always showing up after lunch with a box of Little Debbie's Nutty Bars (her favorite).

She was one of those people (I hope you've met someone like this) that you felt like a better person for having been around. Even toward the end, you always left her with a bounce in your step and a sense of hope in your spirit that wasn't there when you arrived.

She never went to seminary. She's not interested in the Calvin/Arminius debate. I remember how moved and troubled she was when she read a biography about Billy Graham and how he so often felt like he wasn't doing enough to advance the Kingdom (so she prayed for him). And I remember the four words I heard with every visit, spoken in that thick Italian accent, that captured the very essense of her existence:

"I lov-a ma Jesus."

The accent made it musical, and she said it with such a childlike expression, you could almost see into her heart. She got a little ticked when the UPS guy called him, "The Big Man Upstairs." "Donna you disa-respeca ma Saviour." Then she shared the gospel with him. I don't know what came of it, but that was her way. She was all about Jesus.

When you say simplicity, I think of her. She never grappled with a search for truth. She didn't have crises of faith, even after she had buried four of her nine children and two of her grandchildren. She had blind faith. She never felt the need to emerge. She didn't need to know all the answers (or even ask the questions, for that matter). She knew that Jesus knew them, and that was good enough for her.

If she were to post on most of the blogs I scan, she'd be ridiculed, shot down, labelled a stupid, close-minded idiot by the "deep thinkers" of the blogosphere.

But the fact remains, when she closed her eyes for the last time, she opened them again a moment later in the presence of her Saviour. I can almost hear her first words to Him, "Ma Jesus!"

Beer is demonic. It's also fattening. It's also misleading. Makes one think they're artistic.

hmmm...

I stumble onto this blog/site and am not sure how to decipher things... as simple as they seem...

but what I think I see is more people who are not afraid to express issues of faith and reality of experience in a forthright way... meaning "without as much sugarcoating"

if you are inclined... come on over to "The Gray Zone" ( www.jamesthegray.blogspot.com ) for some of my own meanderings... you might find either some reasonable material to chew on, or another thing to add to your "stupid" pile. As I am mildly new to blogging, don't get upset if I breached some blogger-ian form of etiquette by mentioning another blog to check out. I just detected a note of similarity here that might appreciate other flavors of likemindedness.

ooh what the hiz-ell:
here's another one to pique your interest, too...

www.amyfrenchkiss.blogspot.com

believers in the fight of faith, trying to deal with the stink of reality of living in a world that's going down like poo in the pot and mixing that with the ignorant and religious mannequins wearing plastic grins that a lot of church history has produced... all while having the realities of love and freedom and relationship with the greatest God in the line-up of gods be confirmed and sorted out time and time again.

ok that's it... a spider has just resurfaced that I'm about to send to the abyss that escaped me earlier and darted into my monitor... it jumped... I missed it... ok, gotta go.
