First, I'm really glad the pod cast is up. Thank you! Second, Josh man, seriously what's with the jobs? I think we should start the find Josh a job post. Josh, you could list your knowledge/skills/abilities/interests and we could help you focus in on an area for your future career and help you draft a resume. Third, I've noticed the detractors on this site from time to time and have even engaged them occasionally. However, I really enjoyed watching everyone ignore them. I feel like we sell a little part of ourselves when we give in to there desire for a shouting match. Granted, Steve did get this nut to start using proper writing structure, kudos. But, I think diving head first into theological debates with these idiots is a waste, a very funny and ridiculous waste. However, that being said, I loved phone call. Josh, you have a really sexy phone voice...have you guys been trading pictures over the internet? He was hot on you boy! Finally, I've never been to Tulsa, is it as bad as you guys make it sound?
Hey, Great Pod cast! Enjoyed the guests! Jeff and the Ninja, thanks for participating.
Hi, SCP!
I've listened to quite a few of your podcasts. To be honest, you frustrated the crap out of me at first, but I've slowly started to agree with much more of what you say.
This issue with healing personally brings me out of the woodwork for a few reasons. No, I'm not a TBN fan, but I do believe in healings today. I can't explain how or where, but I've personally seen and experienced this whole thing, myself. I'll give you one instance of it.
I volunteer at a local youth ministry. Two years ago, we had what amounted to a youth revival and had a bigger emphasis on spiritual gifts. To my surprise, someone came with this big belief that they could see people's feet grow so they were even, which is cause of many backaches, headaches, and more. To my shock, he would sit people on a chair, measure their feet, pray, and I literally saw dozens of people, one at a time, have their feet grow.
What was more mind boggling was that for my whole life, I had had this weird thing where I walked like a duck because my feet had a 1/2 inch difference in length between them. Call it "taking God for a test drive," but I decided to give it a whirl. By this time, even teenagers were starting to really believe this thing, so rather than the initial person, a group of teenagers prayed for my 20 year old feet to grow. Just seconds later, I felt this odd pulling feeling and witnessed one foot seemingly stretch to match up with the other. I swear - it took several hours to get used to walking again (and not like Daffy Duck) anymore.
That same week, one girl was healed of spina bifida, another actually had her toes grow so they are even because they were severely different, and much more. These were almost entirely teenagers praying for other teenagers who had vaguely been exposed to healings.
Josh, this whole healing thing really is wacky because our brains don't think this way. I hate to pull out the pet Scripture, but Hebrews does shout that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Any time I saw people pray for this, they ALWAYS prayed not in their own name, but in Jesus name.
Perhaps what was coolest about this was that a few spiritual seekers saw this and, as teenagers, decided to genuinely try Christianity and have since become full-fledged converts. I do believe healing is for today, but I'm not an expert on it. I guess its like the blind man who was healed by Jesus and drilled by others. He was all like, "I don't understand it - I just know that once I was blind, but now I see."
Thanks for your continuing thought provoking dialogue. I really think I've grown as a result of SCP.
God bless,
Brad
Brad,
I have no way of verifying your story from medical fact so I'll take at face value that you witnessed "something" happen to these people's feet.
Well, back in the mid 80's I saw the late Pentecostal titan Derek Prince do some "leg lengthening" in the name of healing folks. No, Derek could not heal folk in wheelchairs or with eye infirmites, etc. (at least not on that day). But, somehow he huffed and puffed and pulled a few legs, or at least it appeared do. Of course, Derek embellished this with a whole lot of talk about naming demons and casting them out. Hell, the dude told one woman she was practicing witchcraft because she frequent problems with colitis (not to be confused with coitus :)).
It's pretty freaking wierd the kinda stuff that gets done in the "name" of Jesus!
I attended a Pentecostal church for years, and one time my pastor had a faith healing speaker come in and said that she fully expected to raise somebody from the dead. I almost walked out... so sick of that crap.
No doubt - there are freaks in the Word of Faith movement. I've seen them before - they make Christians seem like carnies.
Others seem more genuine. I like the genuine.
I think we'll get to heaven someday and God will introduce us to all the greatest miracle-workers of our generation... and we won't recognize any of them, because they'll be the ones who never owned cameras or TV networks. No, they'll probably be people who spent a lot of time with God, and no one ever saw...
To me, that's a beautiful thing...
I had a nightmare that we were all wrong, and it was St. Benny standing at the pearly gates. Josh was hanging by his shorts from heaven's flagpole (beneath the US flag, obviously), and Steve was trying to explain that it really a badge of honor to be named SCP of the year.
I looked down and realized I had a handful of Starbucks cards.
Well, this is the first podcast I listened to. I totally laughed my head off.
Meanwhile, I think Steve sounds like a thicker-voiced Jello Biafra sometimes. ;)
BTW, I'm sure I'm not the only one to notice, but the title of this podcast/post is pure genius.
This was an excellent podcast, gentlemen. It was almost old-school SCP, but better even. I liked all the special guests. Speaking of which, when are you going to have me on?! Is it because I'm not Jesus-filled?
Let's set it up....
Email Josh or I...
But you know you'll have to dumb-it-down when you talk to us smarty pants. That's what NinjaNun does.
Ha! Whatevah! I get so nervous and tongue-twisted when you guys have me on, my true brilliance is hidden. ;)
And having Jenny on would totally rock!
But hey---when I send you e-mail, it bounces back to me. You never got back to me about having my muzak on your podcast.
Guys, I have no idea who you are, but that pod is friggin hilarious. You guys should be on the stage.
please have another podcast

Wow, I just found out you had a pod cast dedicated to me. I am just curious why you did not call me for real. I would love a chance talk about your challenge. I am sorry I did not get back to you sooner on that I have just heard the pod cast this evening.
Steve, I did not realize you had "broken me down", I will have to go back and reveiw those comments so that I might see how your well htought responses corrected my theology.
I just thought it was interesting steve how you said living a duel life is why you agve up on ministry.
Maybe, you gave up on your idea of ministry. If ministry is about people, how did leaving a position effect your ministry at all.
You even accused me of living a duel life and qualified it with a confessed assumption. Aren't these the type of things that you are angry at the church people for doing?
Josh, I am just curious who's fault you think it is that you aren't healed. Maybe, you can come up with some biblical reference that says you are not supposed to be healed, that would make a quality argument. The " I've never seen it" argument is kinda wearing thin. I would say that Jesus did it but Steve says it's immature to think that Christ like is doing what Christ did. So maybe have to scrounge another place in the Bible that says Jesus was wounded for our infirmities and bruised for our iniquities.
If only I cound find more places in the bible that talk about miracles......there may be a couple books in the new testament i can poke around in.
I let ya know.
Did anyone else catch that Jeff openly claimed to be waxing Shirley Phelps Roeper?
...ah...was that a waxing of the bikini line, Jeff?
I'm imagining that she's one hairy broad, right?
mmmmmm... hairy.
Did anyone else catch that Jeff openly claimed to be waxing Shirley Phelps Roeper?
I totally noticed, yo. ;)
Good lawd, Jefe!

-Hello? Who’s there?
-It’s me Jesus
-Oh Jesus. I’m so glad you called. I’ve been healing people all over in your name. I handed out tracts in front of the bar. I condemned a bunched of pierced up and tattooed sinners to hell. I go to church every Sunday and memorize verses every day. I’ve been wearing my WWJD bracelet too and haven’t lusted after a woman in months. You must be so proud of me.
-Actually I’m not a real big fan. You didn’t give that “drunk” your spare change this morning. You gave that man with no legs false hope. You claimed a power you don’t have and took money that people desperately needed. You yelled at that scared little girl as she was going in to the clinic last week. You wouldn’t look that prostitute in the eyes when she asked you for a ride. You saw those kids on TV dying and muttered under your breath that I had cursed them!
-But Jesus…
-Smarted up!!! (*Click*)
PS
I want to see one of these healing ministries guys “fix” someone with Autisms or re-grow an amputee’s leg!
